Synopsis
James Burke rapidly makes his way up through the ranks to become first officer in the British merchant navy. He enlists aboard the dilapidated Patna with its cargo of Mecca-bound Muslim pilgrims, only to abandon ship in a severe storm, leaving the passengers to their fate. Dismissed from service, Jim drifts around ports in South-East Asia. To redeem himself, he accepts to take a shipment of arms to the village of Patusan, inhabited by natives enslaved by a warlord nicknamed "The General."
