5 year-old Sosuke lives on a clifftop overlooking the sea. One morning, while playing on the rocky beach beneath his house, he comes across a little goldfish named Ponyo with her head stuck in a jam jar. He rescues her and puts her in a green plastic bucket. The pair of them are fascinated with one another. Sosuke tells her: ?Don?t worry, I?ll look after and take care of you.? But Ponyo?s father, Fujimoto, a human in a previous life and now a sorcerer living in the deepest part of the ocean, obliges her to accompany him back down into the depths.
