A village in Protestant Germany. 1913-1914. On the eve of World War I. The story of the children and teenagers of a choir run by the village schoolteacher, and their families: the baron, the steward, the pastor, the doctor, the midwife, the tenant farmers. Strange accidents occur and gradually take on the character of a punishment ritual. Who is behind it all?
BIOGRAPHY
Munich, 1942. Das Weisse Band (The White Ribbon) is the winner of the Fipresci Grand Prix for best film of the year, to be presented precisely at the San Sebastian Festival, in addition to having secured the Golden Palm and Fipresci Prize at Cannes Festival 2009. Haneke has scored countless awards, including Best Director for Caché (Hidden, 2005) and Grand Jury Prize for La pianiste (The Piano Teacher, 2001), both at Cannes, in addition to the Fipresci Prize at various festivals dating as far back as Benny?s Video (1992) and Funny Fames (1997).
