The Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke won the Best Screenplay Award at the last Festival de Cannes thanks to this chronicle of four people and four provinces. A reflection on contemporary China: that of an economic giant slowly being eroded by violence.

BIOGRAPHY

Jia Zhangke, born in 1970 in Fenyang, Shanxi province, graduated at the Beijing Film Academy and debuted as a director with the film Xiao wu in 1998. His other titles include: Zhantai (2000), Ren xiao jiao (2002), Shijie (2004), Sanxia haoren (Still Life, 2006), winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Festival in 2007, and Er shi si cheng / 24 City (2008), presented in Zabaltegi at the San Sebastian Festival. He has also directed the documentaries Dong (2006) and Wuyong (2007), both winners of the Orizzonti Award at the Venice Festival in 2007 and 2008 respectively. A Touch of Sin won the Best Screenplay Award at the last Festival de Cannes.
