Penélope gets lost in all of us
Saturday, September 28th, 2019

Last night Penélope Cruz became the third recipient of a Donostia award at this year’s Festival at a ceremony held in the Kursaal. Spain’s most international actress was surprised and thrilled to receive the award from her close friend, Bono. The Irish musician explained that, “not every actor has as fascinating a life off-screen as on, but Penélope’s life is fascinating because it’s all about the drama of the family, and the extended family which I am blessed to be part of. Performers like us get lost in ourselves; Penélope gets lost in everyone else, and that’s why we get lost in you.”

After a long ovation, Penélope Cruz confessed that she had fulfilled two of her childhood dreams: Being a mother and an actress. She dedicated the award to her two children and her partner, Javier Bardem, who was in the audience. She recalled all the directors who she had worked for, with a special mention for Pedro Almódovar, Bigas Luna and Fernando Trueba and rounded off her speech with a plea for an end to the terrible scourge of violence against women.
