María lives in Managua’s immense rubbish dump. For her, the place is like an amusement park where she invents games and stories with everything she finds. After accidentally poisoning the puppies her mother was trying to rear to sell, the girl is taken to a recycling factory to learn how to work in the dump. The weeks pass and her mother doesn't come back for her. María, who has by now made friends with other children who work in the factory, can’t believe that she too has been abandoned and decides to set out and look for her mother, not knowing that in the city there is a wave of violent protests which will put her in danger.
