Havana, in the early 90s. René González, a Cuban pilot, steals a plane and flees Cuba, leaving his beloved wife and daughter behind. He starts a new life in Miami. Other Cuban deserters soon follow him and they institute a spy ring. Their mission is to infiltrate the violent anti-Castro organisations responsible for terrorist attacks on the island.
Olivier Assayas (Paris, 1955) began his career making short films, writing screenplays (especially for André Téchiné) and collaborating with Cahiers du Cinéma. His first feature film, Désordre (1986), received the FIPRESCI Prize at Venice and was presented in New Direcotrs at San Sebastian. The acknowledgements continued thanks to titles such as Paris s'éveille (Paris Awakens, 1991), Jean Vigo Award, Fin août, début septembre (Late August, Early September, 1998), Silver Shell for Best Actress in San Sebastian, Clean (2004), Best Actress award at Cannes, Apres mai (After May, 2012), Best Screenplay Award at Venice, Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), Louis-Delluc Prize, and Personal Shopper (2016), Best Director award at Cannes. With Wasp Network he competed at Venice.
