Sara has been alone all her life. She’s 22, has a baby, and wants to form a normal family with her young brother and the father of her child. Her own father, Manuel, decides to come back into their lives after years of absence and his release from prison. Sara knows he’s the main obstacle to her plans and she makes a difficult decision: to distance him from herself and her brother. Debut film.
Belén Funes (Barcelona, Spain. 1984) studied at the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalunya and at the San Antonio de los Baños Film School before starting to work in the film industry as an assistant director and in the casting department on various productions, while taking her first steps as a continuity supervisor. Isabel Coixet produced her first professional short film, Sara a la fuga (2015), which landed the Best Short film and Best Director Awards at the Malaga Festival as well as a Goya nomination. Her second short film, La inútil (2017), was selected for the Valladolid SEMINICI and was a Best Short Film candidate at the Gaudí Awards. La hija de un ladrón, taking its inspiration from the story and character of Sara a la fuga, is her first feature film.
