To guarantee the protection of all accredited guests and to enable their work, the San Sebastian Festival has introduced the following measures for its 68th edition:

  • The TGA studio has drawn up a detailed report, presented for its approval to the Basque Government Department of Health, on cleaning and disinfection of the San Sebastian Festival sites and cinemas. It has also established measures and protocols on the distribution of people inside the spaces and the associated signage.
  • In the four biggest Festival cinemas (Kursaal 1, Kursaal 2, Principal and Victoria Eugenia Theatres) the capacity will be 50%. In the other cinemas, the capacity has been reduced to 60%.
  • In addition to social distancing, all services dealing with the public will have protective screens. All of the Festival staff will wear approved masks at all times.
  • All seats in the cinemas will be pre-assigned and numbered.
  • The screenings will be scheduled to leave an interval of 90 minutes between showings at the Kursaal 1, Kursaal 2, Principal and Victoria Eugenia Theatres, and of 60 minutes in the other theatres with a lower capacity in order that they may be vacated, ventilated and disinfected.
  • The use of masks is mandatory. In screenings with a runtime of more than 4 hours, spectators must wear approved professional masks as established in the Order currently in force, issued by the Health Department (KN95 or FFP2) for special situations.
  • This year there will be no official events, such as the opening and closing parties, or cocktail parties of any kind.
  • The desk for collecting accreditations (for both the media and general guests), will open two days earlier than in previous editions to prevent agglomerations. The publications point of sale has also been removed to leave more space between desks and enable social distancing.
  • The San Sebastian Festival will work with the health authorities to detect and trace all potential contacts for people potentially affected by COVID-19.
