Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The film Las mil y una / One in a Thousand, directed by the Argentinean filmmaker Clarisa Navas, will receive the eighth Sebastiane Latino Award decided by a jury made up of members of GEHITU, the Basque Association of Gays, Lesbians, Transsexuals and Bisexuals. Presentation of the award, organised by the collective to honour the Latin American film of the year 2020 which best represents sexual and gender diversity, will take place during the 68th edition of the San Sebastian Festival.
Las mil y una / One in a Thousand, included in the Horizontes Latinos section, is a co-production between Argentina and Germany which participated as a project in the Festival’s Europe-Latin American Co-Production Forum. Clarisa Navas (Corrientes, 1989), who debuted with Hoy partido a las 3 (2017), opened the Panorama section at the last Berlinale and won the Best Film award at Jeonju Festival (South Korea) thanks to the tale of a young girl faced with the peaks and valleys of first love.
The jury has decided to give the award to Las mil y una / One in a Thousand “for being a film whose narrative and technical making very naturally reflects the nonconformist experiences of a group in a marginalised environment”. “It shows the vulnerability and strength that coexist in the different kinds of people corresponding to the LGBTI acronym”, says the GEHITU jury, for whom Clarisa Navas “demonstrates that it is possible to talk in a film about the affections and sexuality of adolescents with realism and without losing the ‘magic’ of the central love story.”
The Sebastiane Latino Award will be presented at the first showing of the film during the San Sebastian Festival, whose 68th edition will run from September 18-26.
