Todos os mortos / All the Dead Ones
Horizontes Latinos

The fast-growing city of São Paulo, Brazil, 1899. A few years after slavery has been abolished. The three women of the Soares family, former owners of lands and slaves, just came back to the city. Lost after the death of their last housemaid, they struggle to adapt to the changes in Brazil. At the same time, the Nascimento family, who used to work as slaves in the Soares estate, are now facing a society in which there is no space for the recently freed black people. Between Brazil's past and present, out of place, they all fight to survive in the modern world.

Caetano Gotardo (Vila Velha, Brazil. 1981) has directed the feature films O que se move (The Moving Creatures, 2012) and Seus ossos e seus olhos (Your Bones and Your Eyes, 2019), shown at festivals all over the world. He has also directed numerous short films, particularly including Areia (Sand, 2008), presented in the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes. Marco Dutra (Sao Paulo, Brazil. 1980) has co-directed with Juliana Rojas Trabalhar cansa (Hard Labor, 2011), premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, and A boas maneiras (Good Manners, 2017), winner of the Special Jury Prize at Locarno. Solo he has directed the horror film Quando eu era vivo (When I was Alive, 2014) and the thriller Era el cielo (The Silence of the Sky, 2016). Todos os mortos competed at the Berlin Festival.
