There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students?
Thomas Vinterberg (Frederiksberg, Denmark. 1969) was the co-founder, with Lars von Trier, of the Dogma 95 movement, which he provided with its first title, Festen (The Celebration, 1998), Jury Prize at the Festival de Cannes. With Jagten (The Hunt, 2012) he returned to the French competition, which gave its protagonist, Mads Mikkelsen, the Best Actor award. The film was also nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. In 2016 he competed at Berlin Festival with Kollektivet (The Commune), whose central character, Trine Dyrholm, won the Golden Bear for Best Actress. His other films include It’s All About Love (2003), Submarino (2010), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) and Kursk (2018). Druk is part of the official selection for Cannes 2020, cancelled due to Covid-19.
