A lavish upper-class wedding goes awry in an unexpected uprising of class warfare that gives way to a violent coup d'etat, seen through the eyes of the sympathetic young bride and the servants who work for her wealthy family.
Michel Franco (Mexico City, 1979) directed, in 2009, his first feature film, Daniel y Ana, (Daniel & Ana) presented in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the Festival de Cannes and in Horizontes Latinos at San Sebastian. He returned to Cannes with Después de Lucía (After Lucía, 2012), winner of the Un Certain Regard Award and Special Mention in Horizontes Latinos. This was followed in 2015 by A los ojos and Chronic, Best Screenplay at Cannes and which also competed in Horizontes Latinos. With Las hijas de Abril (April’s Daughter) he returned to Un Certain Regard, where he nabbed the Jury Prize, and to San Sebastian’s Horizontes Latinos. Nuevo orden (New Order) competed at the last Venice Festival.
