DU SOM ER I HIMLEN / AS IN HEAVEN • Danimarka
Monday, September 20th, 2021

The Danish director Tea Lindeburg presented her debut film As in heaven here yesterday. It tells the story of how a 14-yearold girl living on a farm in the late 19th century has to suddenly become the head of her family when her mother dies a. The director revealed that she only got round to reading the book “A night of death” by Marie Bregendahl that her screenplay is based on when she herself had a child. “I thought it was really contemporary despite being written more than a hundred years ago. I was really affected by what happens to the mother, and it made me think how lucky I am to be living today in this part of the world. However, what especially affected her were the children and above all Lisa, and her inability to alter her fate.

Asked about whether her film had a political angle, she replied: “My film is a story about women, but I wouldn’t dare to say that it is about the matriarchy, and I want to make it quite clear that I haven’t directed this project to make political comments about the present day. I don’t feel able to condemn anyone for the beliefs that they cling to”.
