María Pilar Rodríguez (San Sebastián) holds a Doctorate in Romance Languages and Literatures obtained at Harvard University and was a professor at Colombia University in New York until 2002. She received the Koldo Mitxelena Chair at the University of Chicago (2015) and the Bernardo Atxaga Chair at the City University of New York (2023). She is currently a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, University of Deusto, where she was the Principal Researcher of the Communication team from 2015 to 2025.
She has published extensively on the cinema, communication, literature and gender studies (some 150 publications). She has organised and participated in myriad congresses and conferences and has several awards and research fellowships to her name.
Among her publications on Basque cinema are the books Mundos en conflicto. Aproximaciones al cine vasco de los noventa, Basque Cinema. A Cultural and Political History (written with Rob Stone), Euskal emakume zinemagileak (editor) and La memoria en las pantallas. El terrorismo en el cine y la televisión (written with María Marcos Ramos).
