Tamar Novas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) made his film debut at the age of 11 years in La lengua de las mariposas / Butterfly (José Luis Cuerda), premiered out of competition in the San Sebastián Festival’s Official Selection in 1999.
Worthy of note among his works for the cinema are Mar adentro / The Sea Inside (Alejandro Amenábar, 2005), for which he landed the Goya and Unión de Actors awards for best new actor; Los abrazos rotos / Broken Embraces (Pedro Almodóvar, 2009), which competed at Cannes; Un otoño sin Berlín / An Autumn Without Berlin (Zinemira, 2015), the debut film from Lara Izagirre; Elisa y Marcela / Elisa & Marcela (Isabel Coixet), a competitor at the Berlinale; Quien a hierro mata / Eye for an Eye (Paco Plaza, 2019); A 1.000 km de la Navidad / 1000 Miles from Christmas (Álvaro Fernández Armero, 2021) and the debut films O corpo aberto / The Open Body (Ángeles Huerta, 2022) and Salta! (Olga Osorio, 2023), for which he garnered the Mestre Mateo Best Actor Award for two years running.
He appeared threefold at last year’s Festival: with Rondallas / Band Together (Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Velodrome), earning a nomination for the Best Supporting Actor Goya, 8 (Julio Médem, Made in Spain) and Parecido a un asesinato (Antonio Hernández, RTVE Galas). This year he participates in the debut film Caminando con el Diablo / The Devil Within (Rubén Pérez Barrena) and will release his second collaboration with Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Colisión.
He has also starred in series such as Fariña, Los pacientes del doctor García, El desorden que dejas and Clanes, in addition to Ardora, now pending release.
In theatre, he made his debut at the Centro Dramático Nacional with El viaje a ninguna parte, by Fernando Fernán Gómez, in 2014. That same year he was nominated for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Theatre award by the Unión de Actores for Comedia y sueño. He once again worked with the CDN in Viaje de Galileo (2016) and El jardín de los cerezos (2019).
