Catherine Paillé (Les Sables d’Olonne, France) studied at La Fémis in Paris. In 2006 she wrote her first feature film, L’apprenti / The Apprentice (Critics' Week Award, Venice Film Festival, 2008), going on to work with many directors of her generation: Jean-Bernard Marlin, (Shéhérazade, Semaine de la Critique, Cannes 2018. Jean Vigo Prize, 2018. César Award for Best First Film, 2019); Guillaume Brac (A l’abordage / All Hands on Deck, Berlinale Panorama, 2020); Vincent Maël Cardona (Les Magnétiques / Magnetic Beats, Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Cannes 2021. César Award for Best First Film, 2022).
She has also co-written with foreign directors, such as Franco Lolli (Gente de Bien, Special Mention at Horizontes Latinos in San Sebastian, 2014) and Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Daguerreotype, 2016). More recently, she has written a stop-motion movie, Savages (Locarno Film Festival, 2024; Annecy Animation Film Festival, 2024; Cannes Official Selection, out of competition, 2024), directed by Claude Barras.
She is currently writing with Franco Lolli and Claude Barras, continuing their longstanding collaboration.
