Mike Leigh brings Tender Loving Care to the Official Selection, placing care and human connection at the heart of his latest film. Amy, nearing 40 after a broken relationship, seeks refuge with her friend Rosie. Both
work in social services, caring for vulnerable people, while Amy also faces the ageing of her parents.
Blending social realism, tenderness and wry British humour, Leigh explores the delicate webs that help people
weather life’s storms. The film shifts between professional and personal care, posing the poignant question: who cares for the caregivers? Instead of simple solutions, Leigh uncovers hope in acts of compassion and in the chosen families we build. If this is indeed his final film, Leigh leaves us with a gentle, profoundly human meditation on ageing, loneliness and our shared need to look after one another.
