With Bajañí, Fernando Trueba turns the usual relationship between cinema and music on its head: here, the screen becomes a living stage where music takes center spotlight. Named after the Caló word for Spanish guitar, the film follows Niño Josele and his guitar in their journey across continents, musical traditions and unexpected encounters. Josele shares the spotlight with legends such as Caetano
Veloso, Ron Carter, Rubén Blades, Kenny Barron and Marisa Monte. Like Calle 54, performance is at its heart, but an intimate, almost invisible camera lets the melodies breathe freely. Trueba chooses takes for their musical magic, not technical perfection. The result is a deeply personal film born from conversations, dreams and collaborations, guided by a simple belief: sometimes the truest way to capture music is simply to step back and let it play.
