Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
As part of the activities organized within the framework of the Euskadi Basque Country 2030 Agenda, the San Sebastián Festival's Thought and Debate department organized a conversation during its 74th edition on the role of cinema as a means of engaging with reality. The discussion took place on September 21, 2026, in Tabakalera's Hall 1, with Mexican actor, director and producer Diego Luna, who was attending the Festival to present his new film, Ceniza en la boca / Ashes, in the Horizontes Latinos section. Luna was invited to discuss an aspect of his work that is perhaps less familiar to San Sebastian audiences: the Ambulante festival. Founded in 2005 by Luna, Elena Fortes, and Gael García Bernal, this non-profit organization is dedicated to supporting and promoting documentary cinema in Mexico. The conversation was moderated by Noemí Cuetos, Head of the Film Sector at ICEX Spain Trade and Investment.
