On 6 August 1945, the Enola Gay bomber plane carried the most lethal cargo ever made by a human being. At 8:15:17 am, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. The image imprinted on the collective memory is that of the nuclear mushroom seen from the sky, but not that of the burning bodies or that of the hands that tried to save them. That was the perspective of a Basque Jesuit priest, a missionary born in Bilbao: Pedro Arrupe.
