Rocío (1980) not only portrayed Spain's most famous pilgrimage: it also revealed the repression meted out under Franco in Almonte. The consequences were dire: a court censored it and its director never made another film. Forty years later, Isabel Cadenas Cañón follows the trail of the "Rocío" devotees: filmmakers who took up his baton, a family marked by censorship, and a jurist who explains why that silence is, also, that of all of we women, today.
