Bizkaia, 1930. A harsh storm causes an English ship carrying tons of coal in its hold to run aground. During the night, the people of Algorta flock to the coast to rescue the black gold. Sabas Jauregui sees the occasion as a stroke of luck; Josefa, his wife, as a bad omen. Ignoring her pleas, Sabas drags his children towards the violent storm. The family will do the unthinkable to protect the coal that could save them from the winter... or condemn them forever.
