Across the morning landscape drifts the sound of an axe. White ribbons that only yesterday danced in the wind now stand still in silence. Helka, yesterday's bride, bids farewell to her family home and walks through the village toward her husband's house. She carries a quilt filled with goose feathers once plucked by her mother. On her journey into adulthood, the music of the rural world becomes Helka's sole companion.
