What if the dead had something to say, and we chose to listen? In My sad dead, Pablo Larraín brings Mariana Enríquez’s unsettling world of ghosts and grief to the screen, blending social horror, dark humour and a
remarkable female cast. Ema (Mercedes Morán) has seen the dead since childhood. As she struggles to mourn her mother, her ghost keeps returning. Then her niece arrives and three teenagers are murdered in the neighbourhood, causing the fragile boundary between the living and the dead to collapse. Soon, what was Ema’s private burden becomes a haunting shared by the entire community.With Dolores Fonzi, Alejandra Flechner and Carolina Álvarez, Larraín creates a compelling world where forgotten people and forgotten ghosts demand to be seen. My sad dead is an eerie, moving invitation to listen to the voices we usually choose to ignore.
