Ilian Metev studied at the UK National Film and Television School, graduating in 2008 with his short film Goleshovo. His first feature, the documentary Poslednata lineika na Sofia (Sofia’s Last Ambulance, 2012), is a detailed portrait of three Bulgarian medics at work. The film premiered at the Critics’ Week in Cannes, where it was nominated for the Caméra d’Or and won the Visionary Award. Since then, it has received more than 40 awards and has been shown at the MoMA in New York. 3/4, his first feature-length fiction, won the Golden Leopard in the Cineasti del Presente section of the Locarno Festival.
