I SOLITI IGNOTI / BIG DEAL ON MADONNA STREET
Hunger, Humour and Fantasy

One-time boxer Peppe is the ringleader of a gang of fumbling would-be robbers comprising Tiberio, Mario, Capannelle and Ferribotte, who're on to a dodgy job: to burgle the local savings bank. To blow the safe they need the help of specialist, "professor" Dante Cruciani, who shows them how to go about it. The plan is to get into the flat next to the company and break in through a hole in the wall. But they get their walls wrong and the only thing they break into is a kitchen, where they make the best of a bad job by tucking into a good meal.
BIOGRAPHY

MARIO MONICELLI

Rich in black satire on his country's social reality, Monicelli's work as a screenwriter opened the floodgates to directing, where he first worked as an assistant and later as a co-director. His first work, Al diavolo la celebrità, was accused of obscenity and confiscated by the censors. I soliti ignoti is one of the masterpieces of Italian comedy.
