Synopsis
Director
During World War II, the life of a poor Naples tram driver's family is thrown into disruption when he is arrested by the Germans. He gets back to find that his wife is dabbling in the black market, his son has become a thief and his daughter is working as a prostitute. The fascists, the Nazis and the American troops have all taken their turn at the helm, but for the poor people of Naples nothing has changed, the daily struggle for survival is still the same. The need to save their young and seriously ill daughter, makes the family take another look at life and recapacitate on their values.
