THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN
Terry Gilliam

Towards the end of the 18th century, in a city beseiged by the Turks, a theatre company is presenting a work on the marvellous adventures of Baron Munchausen. The show is interrupted by the Baron himself, who accuses the actors of lying and proceeds to tell his own version of the story, including an explanation of how the war with the Turks really started.
BIOGRAPHY

TERRY GILLIAM

A cartoonista and comedian, Terry Gilliam (Minneapolis, 1940), worked in New York for the famous editor of Mad, Harvey Kurtzman. In 1967 he moved to London to be with his English actor friend John Cleese, who introduced him to Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, the original members of the then soon-to-be Monty Python team. Together with this squad, Gilliam participated in films with a particular brand of corrosive humour, such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) and Monty Python's Meaning of Life (1983).

During his period with Monty Python, Gilliam also went solo on the direction of two films, Jabberwocky (1977) and Time Bandits (1981). The group's split-up marked the start of Gilliam's most creative and personal period:  Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1989), The Fisher King (1991), 12 Monkeys (1995) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), the latter of which was a source of great controversy.

Far from sticking to one particular tack, Gilliam still sees cinema as a field for research, whether formal -his origins as an ilustrator are still indelibly stamped on his images- or in the field of stories, which surprinsingly mix the most biting and cruel of mumorous with tragic pessimism.

This retrospective will include a book entitled Terry Gilliam. El soñador rebelde, written by Jordi Costa and Sergi Sánchez and which will analyse his whole career to date.
