The Lives and Times of Abraham Kahn
International Film Students Meeting

Abraham Kahn was born on the side of a dirt road in a nameless Silesian town. A wandering Jew, Abraham lives the History of 20th century Europe. He joins the Red Baron, fights in the International Brigades, and makes it to space. Over his 100 winters, Abraham lives through five wars, several revolutions, and three wives. A photo-roman made from archive footage, telling the History of a continent through the eyes and memories of one man.
The Film Dept. encourages students to create freely and challenge the boundaries of the language of cinema, both in the documentary and the fictional short film genres. Under one roof with the mythical "Midrasha" Arts College, it profits from its proximity to fine arts' studies. The studies cover all areas of filmmaking, from scriptwriting to cinematography, working with actors, lighting, sound recording, editing and music. The professionals-turned-teachers coach the students in a one-on-one, projects-based method. The Dept. seeks balance between hands-on filmmaking and studies of film theory, art history, philosophy and literature. Workshops and master classes held by top visiting filmmakers open the students to the world outside.
