"Yves Saint Laurent has left us," reads the June 1st 2008 newspaper headline. Pierre Bergé faces the cameras and answers questions about the great couturier who just passed away. More than anything else, this great man was his life's companion. Together, through their demanding rigour and passion, they somewhat changed the world. Our world, the everyday world, where women wear safari jackets and pants, finally affordable for everyone, with the creation of Rive Gauche. Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent: one created an empire, the other liberated women. And during a period of forty years, these two men built a one of a kind art collection. On February 23rd, 24th, and 25th 2009, this exceptional collection was auctioned at the Grand Palais. The Auction of their collection will be the common thread used to recount the intense and wild story of the love and life shared by these two uncommon men, Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent.
