Julieta lives in Madrid with her daughter Antía. The two silently bear the suffering of having lost Xoan, Antiá’s father and Julieta’s husband. But pain doesn’t always bring people together; sometimes it pushes them apart. When Antía turns eighteen she walks out on her mother, without a word of explanation. Julieta does everything she can to find her, but the only thing she discovers is how little she knew her daughter. Julieta talks about a mother’s struggle to overcome uncertainty. It also talks about fate, about the feeling of guilt and of that unfathomable mystery that drives us to leave the people we love, erasing them from our lives as if they’d never meant anything to us, as if they’d never existed.

Pedro Almodóvar won the Prince of Asturias Arts Award in 2006 and an Honorary Doctorate from Harvard University in 2009. He garnered the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2000 for Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother, 1999) and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Hable con ella (Talk to Her, 2002). La mala educación (Bad Education, 2004) opened Cannes, the festival where Volver (2006) won the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress (for the 6 lead women). Los abrazos rotos (Broken Embraces, 2009), competed at Cannes, as did La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In, 2011), winner of the BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 and nominated for a Golden Globe in the same category. Los Amantes pasajeros (I'm So Excited, 2013) is his penultimate film.
