Films in Progress, the twice-yearly rendezvous with the San Sebastian Festival and Cinélatino, Rencontres de Toulouse, has the purpose of promoting the completion of Latin American feature films at the post-production stage and of fostering their international distribution. The feature films must have a runtime of more than 60 minutes and be totally or partially produced by production companies in Latin American countries. The event will run on 23, 24 and 25 September, coinciding with the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum and Glocal in Progress.

Since its creation, 95% of the 191 films selected for Films in Progress have been completed. The activity has also launched the international careers of creators including Jayro Bustamante, Amat Escalante, Alejandro Fernández Almendras, Ciro Guerra, Sebastián Lelio, Mariana Rondón, Pepa San Martín, Emiliano Torres and Lorenzo Vigas, among others.

Films presented at the last editions of Films in Progress, such as Los tiburones (The Sharks) by Lucía Garibaldi; La familia sumergida (A Family Submerged) by María Alché; Marilyn by Martín Rodríguez; Temporada by André Novais; Los silencios by Beatriz Seigner; Luciérnagas by Bani Khoshnoudi; Temporada de caza (Hunting Season) by Natalia Garagiola; and Niña errante (Wandering Girlby) Rubén Mendoza have been selected for and won awards at important international festivals like Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian, Rotterdam, Locarno, Sundance and Venice.
