Eight films presented at the San Sebastian Festival were awarded in 22 categories at the 37th edition of the Goya Awards ceremony, given by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Alberto Rodríguez's Modelo 77 / Prison 77, which opened the festival's Official Selection out of competition, won five statuettes: Best Production Manager (Manuela Ocón), Best Art Direction (Pepe Domínguez del Olmo), Best Costume Design (Fernando García), Best Make-up and Hairstyling (Yolanda Piña, Félix Terrero) and Best Special Effects (Esther Ballesteros, Ana Rubio).
Fernando Franco's La consagración de la primavera / The Rite of Spring, which competed in the Official Selection, carried off the Goya for Best Newcomer Actor (Telmo Irureta).
Sintiéndolo mucho / Feeling It, by Fernando León de Aranoa, which had its world premiere in San Sebastian, has been awarded the Goya for Best Original Song (Joaquín Sabina and Leiva).
As Bestas / The Beasts, which was selected at Perlak after its premiere at Cannes and won the City of Donostia / San Sebastián Audience Award for Best European Film, received nine Goya awards: Best Film, Best Director (Rodrigo Sorogoyen), Leading Actor (Denis Ménochet), Original Screenplay (Isabel Peña and Rodrigo Sorogoyen), Supporting Actor (Luis Zahera), Cinematography (Álex de Pablo), Editing (Alberto del Campo), Original Score (Olivier Arson) and Best Sound (Aitor Berenguer, Fabiola Ordoño, Yasmina Praderas).
Cinco lobitos / Lullaby, which closed Zinemira after its premiere at the Berlinale and its success at Malaga, received the awards for Best New Director (Alauda Ruiz de Azúa), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Laia Costa) and Best Supporting Actress (Susi Sánchez).
Un año, una noche / One Year, One Night, presented at Perlak after its screening in Berlin, received the Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay (Fran Araújo, Isa Campo, Isaki Lacuesta).
Cerdita / Piggy, presented at Zabaltegi-Tabakalera after its premiere at Sundance, received the award for Best Newcomer Actress (Laura Galán).
Lastly, Argentina 1985, which won the City of Donostia / San Sebastián Audience Award for Best Film after its premiere at Venice, was awarded the Goya for Best Ibero-American Film.
