Itzulera (The Return), by Dejabu Konpainia, is an irreverent and psychedelic road movie, created and filmed live in front of an audience in a theater. This existential comedy, with a dizzying pace and delicate visual poetry, tells the story of the trip that three members of a theater company—Ainara, Urko, and Miren—make to Mexico.
The three members, who are in the midst of a life and creative crisis, are going to interview Basques who have rebuilt their lives in the diaspora, thanks to a scholarship they received from the Etxepare Basque Institute. An unexpected event will completely change the course of the trip and plunge the viewer into a delirious adventure featuring car chases, hallucinogenic trips, and a Chihuahua who will complicate their lives. The script, written in the form of autofiction, explores themes such as the search for identity and the irremediable folly of human beings.
In addition to the three actors, filmmaker David Aguilar will be present on stage, creating and directing the images in real time. The play will be performed in Basque for the first time, with Spanish subtitles, at the San Sebastián Festival.
Tickets: 12 euros.
