Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
In Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes / Little Amélie, Maïlys Vallade’s directorial debut, alongside co-director Liane-Cho Han, based on Amélie Nothomb’s novel, we are introduced to the philosophical, sensory and fascinating vision of the world of a three-year-old girl in Japan. The directors aimed to create a narrative that attracted both children and adults, delving into subjects as vulnerability, identity formation, and cultural clash, unfolding the complexity of childhood emotions and experiences.
Vallade views animation as a versatile storytelling tool, influenced by the paradigm shift of Japanese anime, and believes the film can provoke adult viewers to reconnect with their own childhood selves, while also providing younger audiences with significant emotional references. Exploring Amélie’s journey from lethargy to self-awareness, the film proves that animated films can touch deep themes like uprooting and understanding trauma.
