Sandro Florin is a Brazilian film distributor whose company FiGa films specializes in discovering and distributing Latin American content in North America.
This is his fifth visit to San Sebastián but on this occasion he’s here as a Horizontes Latinos juror. He describes the selection of films being screened in this section as excelle nt. “They are all really interesting filmmakers and each of them has something new and important to say.”
He feels that the mix of countries competing in Horizontes Latinos is a good reflection of what you find in other festivals, although normally you don’t find quite as many Brazilian films, as the internal market is so huge that Brazilian producers don’t need to worry so much if their films are successful abroad.
He also stresses that the situation regarding Brazilian cinema has vastly improved in recent years: there are now film schools all over the country, and the government has made significant investments in culture.
