UNATC (The National University of Theatre and Film “I.L.Caragiale” Bucharest) has its origin in the first Theatre Faculty from Romania, founded in Bucharest, inside the Philarmonic School, in 1834. The Institute of Cinema and the Institute of Theatre “I.L. Caragiale” were founded in 1950, merged in 1954 forming IATC, and changed its name for several times (ATF, UATC). From 2000 the University has been known under the present name –UNATC. It is accredited to offer BA, MA and PhD diplomas.
The Film Faculty has its own 35 mm, super16 mm and digital cameras, editing and sound facilities, 4 film studios, 1 photo studio, 1 TV studio, a laboratory for 35 mm and super16 mm – b/w, lecture rooms, lightning equipment, film archive, mediatheque, library, student hostel.
Among our graduates are film directors (Lucian Pintilie, Dan Pita, Mircea Danieliuc, Mircea Veroiu, Nae Caranfil, Cristian Mungiu, Cristian Nemescu, Catalin Mitulescu, Marian Crisan), directors of photography (Florin Mihailescu, Vivi Dragan Vasile, Vlad Paunescu, Mihai Malaimare Jr., Oleg Mutu, Marius Panduru), editors and sound designers (Dana Bunescu, Catalin Cristutiu, Sorin Baican, Ioachim Stroe) and many others.
