The new film from Olivier Assayas, competitor at the Venice Festival, stars a young student caught up in France's political and creative turmoil of the 70s torn between his radical commitment and his personal aspirations.  

BIOGRAPHY

Paris, 1955. Member of the editorial board of Cahiers du Cinéma (1980-1985), during which time he directed several shorts and wrote a number of screenplays, especially for André Téchiné. In 1986, he directed his first feature film, Désordre (1986), followed by titles like Paris s'éveille (1991), Fin août, début septembre (Late August, Early September, 1998), Les Destinées sentimentales (Sentimental Destinies, 2000), Boarding Gate (2007) and L'Heure d'été (2008). Après Mai competed at the recent Venice Festival and landed the award for best screenplay.
