Gianni Amelio presented in the Panorama section of the Berlin Festival this moving look at a century long struggle for happiness and equally that continues today.... A hidden Italy never revealed by a camera that wants to explore reality rather than fiction: Gay Italy as it was lived in the 20th century.

BIOGRAPHY

Gianni Amelio was born in Magisano (Calabria) in 1945. Having studied Philosophy, he moved to Rome, where he started working as an assistant director. After several films for television, in 1982 he made his film directorial debut with Colpire al cuore (Blow to the Heart). Other titles: Il ladro di bambini (Stolen Children, 1992), Lamerica (1994), Così ridevano (The Way We Laughed, 1998), Le chiavi di casa (The Keys to the House, 2004), La stella che non c'è (The Missing Star, 2006), Il primo uomo (2011) and L'intrepido (A Lonely Hero, 2013). He has won numerous awards, including three for Best European Film from the European Film Academy.
