Thirteen films compete for the Kutxabank-New Directors Award
Tuesday, July 28th, 2015

Today the selection of films in the New Directors section was announced. The Director of the San Sebastian Festival, José Luis Rebordinos, together with Ander Aizpurua Kutxabank´s Wholesale Banking Director, revealed the titles of the thirteen films to compete for the Kutxabank-New Directors Award, decided by a specific international jury and carrying €50,000. The New Directors section will present at the coming edition of the Festival a series of first or second works by filmmakers from all over the world.

The competition for the Kutxabank-New Directors Award represents for the San Sebastian Festival a commitment to new international film talents and has now become an important platform for lending visibility to their works. This is the case of the winning film of the Kutxabank-New Directors Award at the last edition of the Festival, Urok / The Lesson, directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. Following its world premiere at the Toronto Festival and its European premiere in the New Directors section, the film has been distributed all over the world, winning awards at numerous international festivals, such as Gothenburg, Thessaloniki, Tokyo, Warsaw, Varna, Vilnius, Sofia and Transylvania. Urok / The Lesson is also one of the three finalist films for the European Parliament Lux Prize, to be decided on November 25.

The support of Kutxabank to the New Directors Section is part of a broader participation, maintaing one more year this financial institution as Official Collaborator of the San Sebastian Festival.
