The Asociación de Informadores Cinematográficos de España (Spanish Cinematographic Informers Association, AICE) has announced its Feroz Awards for the best Spanish films of 2016. The film to have landed most nominations, El hombre de las mil caras (The Man of a Thousand Faces) had its world premiere in the Official Selection of the San Sebastian Festival's 64th edition.
The film helmed by Alberto Rodríguez bags a total of ten nominations: best dramatic film, best director, best leading actor (Eduard Fernández, who landed the Silver Shell for Best Actor in San Sebastian), two nominations for best supporting actor (Carlos Santos and José Coronado), best supporting actress (Marta Etura), best screenplay (Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos), best original music (Julio de la Rosa), best trailer (Miguel Ángel Trudu) and best poster (Gabriel Moreno).
Que Dios nos perdone (May God Save Us), which also had its world premiere in the Official Selection, garners seven nominations: best dramatic film, best director (Rodrigo Sorogoyen), best leading actor (Roberto Álamo), best supporting actor (Javier Pereira), best screenplay (Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Isabel Peña, who also carried off the Best Screenplay Award at the Festival), best original music (Olivier Arson) and best trailer (Fernando Vallarino).
Another seven nominations go to A Monster Calls, screened in the Official Selection out of competition, in European premiere following its screening in Toronto: best dramatic film, best director (J.A. Bayona), best leading actor (the young Lewis MacDougall), best screenplay (Patrick Ness), best original music (Fernando Velázquez), best trailer (Blair Green and Jaume Martí) and best poster.
First-time director Nely Reguera, María y los demás (Maria, and the Others), a participant in the New Directors selection, is nominated for the best comedy film and best leading actress, for the work of Bárbara Lennie.
Furthermore, Julieta, which was selected for Made in Spain following its presentation at the Cannes Festival, competes for nine awards: best dramatic film, best director (Pedro Almodóvar), best leading actress for two of its actors (Emma Suárez and Adriana Ugarte), best supporting actress (Rossy de Palma), best screenplay (Pedro Almodóvar), best original music (Alberto Iglesias), best trailer and best poster.
The Feroz Awards will be announced on January 23 at a gala hosted by the actor Antonio de la Torre.
