Amat Escalante (1979) is a self-taught filmmaker from the Mexican city of Guanajuato. He began making cinema at the age of 15. His first film, Sangre (2005) presented in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, won the FIPRESCI Prize. His second feature, Los bastardos (2008), also participated in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. With his third work, Heli (2013), he won the Best Director Award at the same festival. La región salvaje (The Untamed) is his fourth film.
