A Monster Calls is a fantasy drama that tells the story of Conor, a 13-year-old boy who struggles to cope with the consequences of his mother's terminal cancer with the help of a monster who visits him in the middle of the night.
El orfanato (The Orphanage, 2008), first feature film by J.A. Bayona, won seven Goyas, including Best New Director and Best Original Screenplay. In 2012 he premiered in San Sebastian’s Official Selection The Impossible, which went on to become the biggest box office hit in the history of Spanish cinema and bagged him the Goya for Best Director. Its leading lady, Naomi Watts, received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. J.A. Bayona received the Premio Nacional de Cinematografía. He is currently working on the pre-production of the sequel of the movie Jurassic World.
