Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her 'husband' and manager, St. Clair Bayfield, an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.

BIOGRAPHY

Stephen Frears (Leicester, 1931), began his film career with Gumshoe (1972), but it was My Beautiful Laundrette (1986), with a screenplay by Hanif Kureishi, which drew international attention to his work. Later came Sammy and Rosie Get Laid (1987), also with a screenplay by Kureishi, and Prick Up Your Ears (1987). His extensive and varied filmography also includes Dangerous Liaisons (1988), winner of three Academy Awards, High Fidelity (2000) and The Queen (2006) for which Helen Mirren won the Best Actress Academy Award and which received another five nominations.
