In June 1615, 86 Basque whalers, captained by Martín de Villafranca, Pedro de Aguirre and Esteban de Tellería sailed to the cold waters of Northern Iceland, where they were involved in the country’s darkest episode.

BIOGRAPHY

Aitor Aspe (Bilbao, 1986) studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Navarre. He started out in shorts with Last Smile, winner of the RTVE En Construcción programme competition in 2009 and selected for several European festivals. In 2011, his short film Mi lucha was pre-selected for the Goya and Academy Awards. Baskavígin is his feature directorial debut.
