The Antonio Elorza Velodrome, a cinema with seating for more than 3,000 people, will host the screenings of the complete Arde Madrid series, created by Paco León and Anna R. Costa; Dilili à Paris / Dilili in Paris, marking the return of Michel Ocelot 20 years after the first Kirikou; a double session with the biggest Spanish box-office hit of the year (Campeones / Champions by Javier Fesser) and the documentary on the film Ni distintos ni diferentes: Campeones; and Smallfoot, the animated movie adding a twist to the myth of the Yeti, directed by Karey Kirkpatrick.
The series Arde Madrid is based on a true anecdote dating from 1961, when Ava Gardner became the neighbour of the former Argentine president, Juan Domingo Perón, in the Spanish capital. The story, starring Paco León, who is also its director, Inma Cuesta, Debi Mazar, Anna Castillo and Julián Villagrán, is told from the point of view of the domestic staff working for the North American actress and shifts from comedy mode to thriller.
Twenty years after the famous Kirikou et la sorcière (Kirikou and the Sorceress, 1998), winner of Best Animated Feature Film at the Annecy Festival whose success contributed to dissemination of the French and European animation industry, and after the sequels Kirikou et les bêtes sauvages (Kirikou and the Wild Beasts, (2005) and Kirikou et les hommes et les femmes (Kirikou and the Men and Women, 2012), Michel Ocelot (Villefranche-sur-Mer, France, 1943) will present in San Sebastián Dilili à Paris / Dilili in Paris, about a girl from New Caledonia who is investigating a spate of kidnappings among young girls in the Paris of the Belle Époque.
The Velodrome will also be the setting for a double session with Javier Fesser’s Campeones, the biggest Spanish box-office hit of the year, and the documentary Ni distintos ni diferentes: campeones, starring the real-life characters and directed and produced by Álvaro Longoria.
Lastly, in the Velodromo section, will be the screening of Smallfoot, an animated adventure for all ages, with original music and an all-star cast. Smallfoot turns a myth upside down when a bright young yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist—a human. The film is directed by Karey Kirkpatrick (Over the Hedge), from a screenplay by Kirkpatrick and Clare Sera, screen story by John Requa & Glenn Ficarra and Kirkpatrick, based on the book Yeti Tracks, by Sergio Pablos. Previously, Pablos wrote the story for the blockbuster Despicable Me (Gru, mi villano favorito, which screened in Velódromo in 2010). Smallfoot is produced by Bonne Radford, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The voice cast of the original, English-language version includes Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, Common, LeBron James, Danny DeVito, Gina Rodriguez, Yara Shahidi, Ely Henry and Jimmy Tatro.
