María Elorza
 

Maria Elorza (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1988) studied Audiovisual Communication at Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University and took her Master’s Degree in Research and Creation in Art at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).

Since 2011, she has been combining her work as a freelance director with participation in different creative projects related to the documentary world. With particular interest in looking at everyday aspects and the part played by the word, writing and voice in the filmic sphere, she has co-directed, among others, the “audiovisual dictionary” Irudi mintzatuen hiztegi poetikoa (2013, Best Basque Screenplay Award at Zinebi) and the compendium of video-letters Agosto sin ti (2014, selected for festivals including Alcances and Filmadrid). Also in 2014, she participated in the Zinergentziak programme of the Zinebi Festival, as part of which she made the collective documentary, Errautsak.

Furthermore, in 2015, she joined the work team of the Lupa Documentary Film Festival and gave a series of audiovisual workshops for Tabakalera and Donostia Kultura.

Her works include: La vendedora ambulante (currently shooting, part of the anthology film, Kalebegiak), El canto de los lujuriosos (2015), Agosto sin ti, Gente con la que me gustaría quedarme (2014), Encuentros (2014, winner of a grant from the Gipuzkoa New Artists Programme), Errautsak (2014, collective film as part of the Zinergentziak programme), Irudi mintzatuen hiztegi poetikoa (2013, Benito Ansola Saria grant, Best Basque Screenplay Award at Zinebi), Brijinianori bisita (2013, Euskal Zinema Saria at Nontzafilmak), Antología de conversaciones cotidianas (2012, Gipuzkoa New Artists Competition) and Hamasei Lehoi (2009).
