Diego Lerer

Diego Lerer (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1968) holds a Degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He was a Professor of Semiotics and Theory of Communication at the Centro de Investigación Cinematográfica (C.I.C.) and Journalism Fellowship Program Scholarship holder at the University of Michigan in 2000. From 1992 until 2012 he was a film critic and editor of Argentina’s Clarin newspaper events supplement and he currently contributes as a journalist and film critic to different national and international media, while maintaining his Internet site (Micropsia) on the platform.

He was Vice-President of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) from 2005 to 2009 and President of the association’s Argentina branch until 2014. He has served as a critics’ jury member at festivals including Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Buenos Aires (BAFICI), Cartagena, Gijón, Oslo, London, Chicago, Rotterdam and San Sebastian, among many others, and was Latin American Delegate for the Zurich, Venice and Rome Festivals. He currently holds the same position at the Beijing Film Festival in China.

He wrote Leonardo Favio: Soñar el cine (2015) and co-edited the book Nuevo Cine Argentino: temas, autores y estilos de una renovación (2002). He is currently a professor of Cultural Industries at the TEA Arte (Buenos Aires) and is preparing his film debut, Donde mueren los elefantes, co-directed with Michael Wahrmann.
