Nanni Moretti competed at the Cannes Festival with this film about Margherita, a director shooting a film with a famous American actor, who is quite a character on set. Away from the shoot, Margherita tries to hold her life together while feeling powerless when facing her mother’s illness and her daughter’s adolescence.
Nanni Moretti is a director, actor, producer and writer. He began his cinematic career in the 70s, directing short films. With Ecce bombo (1978), his first professionally-made feature film, he harvested great critical and public acclaim. In 1993 he directed and starred in Caro diario (Dear Diary), Best Director Award at Cannes 1994. La stanza del figlo (The Son’s Room) won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and was screened in the Pearls Section of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
